While the boss is away
Lavandula, Hepburn Springs - a picture of country perfection
As some of you will know, the big Run Forrest BOSS is away in the States for six weeks. Well, three now, time flies. We thought we'd write something to tease her, make her think we were all off sunning ourselves in…. well not Melbourne! But, truth be told we've been busy working away as winter has gotten busy.
We've just been up to Daylesford
, researching for a tourism project we've got going on. And there was much research to be done. Gypsy Hot Chocolate tasting in Monsieur Pierre
, Kyneton to start, a thick brew with an awakening zingy taste that reminded this ol' pom of Christmas; then on to Annie Smithers
for a lunch of pork - the most amazing I have had in a long while. The slightly charred pork steak giving a smoky flavour that set off the sweet prune accompaniment perfectly. I can still taste it now (drool), and can't wait to get back there for more. Then it was on to Sault
in Daylesford, for a dinner 'meeting', where we feasted on duck breast for a main course, and Beetroot Delice with Gingerbread, and Chocolate ice cream for dessert. That spicy gingerbread again transporting me back to wintery memories of Prague and the festive season.
As if we weren't full enough, then there was Ego
for breakfast, a little café on Howe St, that has melt-in-the-mouth pastries and a ginger fluff cake that was bought in good will for the office girls, but with five layers of cake and cream it was scoffed half way home as it was so tempting! That little strip on Howe Street has changed a lot since I last went, with boutique shops, a bustling wine bar (Horvats), and all opposite an ol' favourite, Perfect Drop
We suppose you might be wondering where we stayed - well we didn't want to share that, it was AMAZING! Frank Sinatra and Bob Marley on the record player, the log fire burning, the spa bath rolling, ahh bliss! Harts Lane
So the boss may be away, but we're working on without her and seem to be piling on the holiday pounds too! We may not have have managed to get the Ginger Fluff Cake back to the office, but the girls were treated to some lovely polish chocolate and chorizo from Istra, one of the best value farm gates around. We'll be porking up our forks for sure in the next few days.
Who says you need the USA for new discoveries; Daylesford and it's surrounds has all you need.
